What to Expect from BABS Bone Broth

BABS Bone Broth is not a traditional, ready-to-drink meat stock or a seasoned soup.

It is a pure extraction made by slowly cooking bones and connective tissues in water with a small amount of apple cider vinegar. We intentionally do not add meat, vegetables, herbs, spices, flavour enhancers or salt.

For this reason, our bone broth has a very mild and neutral taste. This is intentional and allows you to use it as a versatile base for soups, sauces, stews, ramen, risotto or other dishes. If you prefer to drink it on its own, simply add sea salt, black pepper, herbs or spices according to your taste.

Why does it taste so mild?

Traditional stock gets much of its flavour from meat, roasted vegetables, salt, herbs and spices. BABS Bone Broth does not contain these ingredients. Gelatine and collagen proteins naturally have very little flavour, so you should not expect it to taste like a strongly seasoned meat bouillon.

Why is it liquid when it arrives?

Your bone broth may be liquid when it arrives, especially if it has become warmer during transport. This is completely normal and does not mean that it is water or that anything is wrong with the product.

Place the jars in the coldest part of your refrigerator, below 7°C, and allow them to chill thoroughly for a few days. The broth can then develop its natural gelatine-like consistency. When heated, it will become liquid again.

The firmness of the gel may vary slightly between jars and batches because bone broth is a natural product.

How to use it

You can:

  • Warm it and season it with sea salt, black pepper, herbs or spices.
  • Use it as a base for soup, ramen, sauces, stews or risotto.
  • Add vegetables, meat, noodles, rice or other ingredients.
  • Use it in any recipe that calls for stock or broth.

Please note: If you are looking for a strongly flavoured, salty or ready-seasoned bouillon, BABS Bone Broth may taste different from what you expect. Its mild flavour and simple composition are intentional.

How to Broth & How to Store

How to broth

The gelatin in Babs Bone Broth is semi-solid at cold temperatures. Once warm or at room temperature, the gelatin becomes a liquid so all you need to do to enjoy your broth is to heat it up and then serve. You can use your favorite seasoning to add more flavor. How to store

Our broths have a long shelf life as we use a traditional way of heat preservation. Store our products in the refrigerator.

Don’t freeze our broth in full jars. The liquid will expand during the freezing process. In the freezer store half jars or pour them into ice cube trays when using small quantities.

Expiration date: good up to 12 months.
