Q&A Bone broth

What are the best ways to consume bone broth?

You can sip warmed bone broth as it is adding a little bit of sea salt. To add flavor, simmer ginger, fresh garlic, scallions, rosemary, cayenne, or any other herbs and spices you want in the broth. Season with sea salt and pepper and fresh lemon and enjoy.

With Babs Pure, go ahead and add it to coffee, smoothies, homemade collagen gummy bears, and any other recipes you want to try, including baked goods and desserts. Babs Pure is unflavored, so it won’t impact the taste.

Babs Beef Bone Broth, Pork Bone Broth, and Chicken Bone Broth all make a delicious base for pho, chilli, ramen, stews, and any dishes you want to enhance with rich flavour and healthy collagen protein.

How often should I drink bone broth for the health benefits?

You can drink it every day if you want. Here are some suggestions based on your health goals:

  • For overall wellness – Drink about four cups a week.
  • To give your hair, skin, and nails a boost of collagen that you can see – Drink one cup a day.
  • For joint pain relief – Try two to three cups a day.
  • To support a healthy gut – Two cups a day will promote healthy digestion and reduced inflammation.
  • For weight loss and muscle building – Drink four cups a day.

Why drink bone broth?

Because Babs Bone Broth contains a high amount of collagen protein, amino acids, and minerals, it can support your overall health. Drinking bone broth is also linked to specific health benefits such as smoother skin, thicker hair, better gut health, healthier joints, and weight loss.

Will bone broth help me lose weight?

There are specific benefits of bone broth that may help with weight loss. Because it’s protein-rich, it creates a feeling of fullness and reduces levels of the hormone ghrelin in the body, which is responsible for triggering feelings of hunger. Bone broth also helps to build lean muscle if you’re exercising regularly, which can then speed up metabolism.

How should I drink bone broth if I’m on a keto diet?

Bone broth has zero carbs and is high in protein so it’s a popular choice for people who follow a keto diet. You can consume it every day, although you don’t need to drink it excessively. A cup or two several days a week is a good amount for promoting healthy living.

Why is bone broth good for gut health?

Bone broth is high in gelatin and gut-healing amino acids including proline and glutamine. Gelatin has been shown to restore and strengthen the gut lining. Gelatin is also known to encourage the growth of good gut bacteria and to reduce inflammation. Additionally, it’s easy to digest, which makes it easy for the body to absorb all the important nutrients found in bone broth.

Is beef bone broth healthier than chicken or pork bone broth?

All types of bone broth — beef, chicken, pork, and fish — are an excellent source of collagen and other nutrients. As each contains different amounts of amino acids, you can rotate the type of bone broth you consume if you want to get the full range of nutrients in your diet.

Where do you source your ingredients for making bone broth?

All of our ingredients are sourced from humane farms in the Netherlands and Belgium, including the animal bones and herbs. This is what sets Babs Bone Broths apart from other producers — we’re passionate about only using the highest quality ingredients in all of our recipes.

Are your bone broths organic?

Yes, our bone broths are certified as 100% organic

When is a good time to drink bone broth?

Whenever you like to have a satisfying snack or meal, you can have bone broth. Some people drink a cup between meals for a nutritious snack. Consider making it a part of your healthy morning ritual — a tablespoon or two in your coffee will help to keep you energized and focused.

You can also consume bone broth in a smoothie or drink a cup of warm bone broth after working out. This is a great way to provide your body with protein and other nutrients to support muscle recovery.

Where is the gelatin, I don’t see any jiggle?

It’s in there! If you don’t see the jiggly gelatin goodness in your jar of bone broth when it arrives, don’t worry. This is normal — because of the temperature changes during transit, the gelatin may have liquefied. Once it cools down, the gelatin will congeal and you’ll be able to see the collagen protein.

Once your bone broth arrives, you can place the jars in the fridge. The ideal temperature for storing our bone broth is 2 to 3 °C.

How should I store bone broth?

Store your Babs Bone Broth in the fridge for up to 12 months unopened. Once you open the jar, be sure to consume the rest within one week. You can store it in the freezer- only not full jars (it will explode!). In the freezer store half jars or place it in ice trays when using small quantities.

What if I only use small amounts of bone broth — should I freeze the rest?

If you don’t think you will finish your opened bone broth within one week, you can freeze the rest in freezer-safe ice cube trays. This is a great way to portion your bone broth for smoothies or keto coffee. Keep in mind, however, that when you freeze and thaw a liquid repeatedly, it can change the consistency of the broth.

How is Babs Bone Broth different from the bone broth at the grocery store?

We only use high-quality bones from organically raised, grass-fed animals. Then we slow-cook our broth. Conventional brands generally use a blend of low-quality bones and paste. They also use high heat, which is why you won’t see all the gelatin or end up with all the amino acids that real bone broth has.

Our broth has a higher nutrient density and no antibiotics, hormones, or other ingredients you don’t want to put in your body. It contains 16 to 18 grams of protein for every 100 mL, compared to 0.5 to 2.5 grams per 100 mL for the broths you buy at the grocery store.

Should I dilute the bone broth?

For soups and stews, you can dilute the broth up to three times with 440 mL of water, which is the size of the jar. If you’re drinking it for the health benefits, or if you’re making sauces, we don’t recommend diluting it at all.

What is collagen?

The main nutrient in bone broth is collagen, which is a protein that our body uses almost everywhere. We need plenty of collagen for healthy bones, teeth, and joints, as well as for our hair, skin, and nails. Natural collagen production starts to decline around age 25, which is why eating collagen-rich foods like bone broth can be so important for overall wellness.

Are there any risks of drinking bone broth?

Bone broth in itself doesn’t have any known risks. However, be sure to maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet and don’t drink bone broth as a substitute for medical care.

Does Babs Bone Broth have a consistent taste?

Every jar of bone broth is made using fresh, local ingredients. You may notice subtle differences to the taste because we’re using bones from different small scale farmers. Babs Pure is always unflavored.

What are the white pieces in my bone broth?

The small white bits are the natural fat from the bones. We do remove most of the fat so you likely will only see a small amount, which will dissolve when heated. This fat does enhance the richness of the broth and it’s 100 percent safe for you to drink.

What type of collagen is in Babs Bone Broth?

Our broths contain all of the important types of collagen: type 1, 2, and 3. Type 3 collagen comes from bone marrow. Our chicken bone broth is high in type 2 collagen, which is found in cartilage, although our other broths contain some as well. Type 1, which is the main type found in the human body, is the primary collagen in all of our broths. It comes from bone and tendons.

How is Babs Bone Broth prepared?

We simmer the bones for up to 32 hours in filtered water. By using low heat and cooking the bones for a long period of time, we’re able to optimize our broth. It’s rich in collagen, amino acids, and minerals. We also use all organic products and herbs to enhance the flavour.

After cooking, we strain the broth and package it into glass jars. Then we warm the jars with steam to ensure the broth stays fresh until it reaches your kitchen!
